SCHMALTZ, Howard – of Flint, age 79, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022 at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (Briarwood). A Graveside Service will be held 11 AM Friday, January 14, 2022 at Richfield Union Cemetery – on North Irish Road in Davison, MI; Rev. Dean G. Dumbrille officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, in Howard’s memory.
Howard was born in Bad Axe, MI on February 2, 1942, son of the late Edwin and Esther (Lange) Schmaltz. He married Lillian Shaw on March 30, 1986 in Las Vegas. Howard retired from General Motors in Flint, after many years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing the harmonica. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Howard is survived by his loving wife, Lillian; children, Edwin (Tammy) Schmaltz, Daniel (Nancy) Schmaltz and Dawn Schmaltz; grandchildren, Colton, Reid, Corrine, Leanna, Taylen, Makenna, Sarah, Christopher, Seth, Melanie, Lexi, Amanda, Aaron, Jake and Trevor; great-grandchildren, Lilia and Eliana; step-daughter, Robin (Kevin) Rivard; siblings, Janet (Rodney) Weiss and Nancy (Ken) Osentoski; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by son, James Schmaltz; step-sons, John and Daniel Shaw; brother, David (Gloria) Schmaltz.
