SAVOIE, Velma – age 89, passed away on December 30, 2021 at Brookdale Clare Bridge Memory Center. A Traditional Latin Requiem Mass will take place at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 706 Beech St., Flint, MI 48502 at 9:30AM, Wednesday, January 5, 2022 with the Requiem Mass celebrated by her grandson, Rev. Dominic Savoie, FSSP. Burial service will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4142 Flushing Rd., Flint, MI. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM, with a Rosary prayed at 7PM Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Wednesday at church. In lieu of flowers, any monetary donations can be made to the Fraternity of St. Peter Seminary, 7880 W. Denton Rd, Denton, Nebraska 68339.
Velma was born October 8,1932 in Meduno, Italy to Mario and Mariana Mian. In 1948, she emigrated to Flint, Michigan (US) with her mother to reunite with her father who had emigrated to the US in 1932. Velma attended St Matthew High School in Flint, Michigan to complete her school education (8th Grade). She worked at St. Joseph Hospital for 2 years, then became engaged to Fernand Savoie. They were married in 1953. They had 5 Children (Dennis, Judy, David, Duane, Donald) and were active members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Flint, Michigan. Velma participated over the years in many of the Holy Rosary Parish Guilds, Altar Society, Funeral dinners, Bingo, and various fundraising events. She was also a lifelong seamstress and performed clothing alterations as part time work. She loved to travel and to see new places and meet new people.
Velma Savoie is preceded in death by her husband, Fernand Savoie and parents, Mario and Marianna Mian and great grandson, Alexander Dean Franklin. She is survived by her son Dennis (Wife Teresa), daughter, Judy (Husband William Franklin II), son David, son Duane (Wife Cindy), son Donald (Wife Sue), Sister Mary Putvin (husband Richard Putvin), brother James Mian (Wife Trish), 11 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
