Charles was born December 6, 1946 to the late Paul and Elizabeth (Wade) Lewis. He graduated from Lakeville Memorial High School in 1965. Charles married Betty Jane Foster on September 20, 1971. He retired from General Motors in 2002 and was a member of UAW Local 599. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was the Bugler for American Legion Post #0321 in Otisville. Charles was a devoted and loving man who always put his family before himself. In 1997, he donated a kidney to his fatally Ill wife, Betty granting her 16 more wonderful years, she preceded him in death in 2015. He enjoyed many things throughout his life: playing trumpet in his band “Saints and Sinners”, gardening, yardwork, hunting, bass fishing, watching U of M Football and Red Wings Hockey games. Charles had a personal dictionary that only a few understood. Everyone was designated a special nickname such as, “Mugwumper” and “Squeege”. If something was stuck you put “lickdob” on it and if you were going slow, you were driving like a “geezer”.
Surviving are: Daughters: Kimberly Schmidt and Rebecca (Christian) Hart; Grandchildren: Jacob (Jennifer) Beebe, Charles Beebe, Nick Beebe, Christian Hart, Lilly Hart, Ella Hart, Sofia Hart, and Ingrid Hart; Siblings: Robert (Ruth) Lewis, David Lewis, Bill (Linda) Lewis and Nora Lewis; Sister-in-law: Judi Lewis and special friends, John (Cathy) Esper. He was also preceded in death by brother, Wade Lewis, brother-in-law, Dave Bieszak and nephew, Todd Lewis. Charles’s gentle, loving and caring demeanor made an impression on all who met him. He would always leave you with these simple words, “love yah, see yah and watch out for deer”.
