Parcels, Laura Marie, of Flushing, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at McLaren-Flint, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial visitation will be held from 3–7 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Caterer Family Funeral Home (formerly Rossell). A brief prayer service will follow at 7 p.m. to conclude the evening.
Laura was born on September 29, 1962, the daughter of Russell and Helen (Spencer) Hough. On October 9, 1982, she married Ricky Parcels, sharing nearly 44 years of marriage. Laura dedicated much of her life to advocating for children. She worked at Hurley Medical Center as Director of Child Life Services, a role she was extremely passionate about. Laura had a special gift with children, becoming like a second mother to many and serving as a source of strength and support for countless families. She continued her love of working with children as a para-educator with the Genesee Intermediate School District. Laura was a strong-willed woman who cared deeply for those around her. Her sons were her world, until her grandson, Levi, came along and quickly became the center of it. Laura was an excellent baker and found great joy in spending time near the water. She especially cherished the beauty of the Mackinac Straits and trips to the Upper Peninsula.
She is survived by her husband, Ricky Parcels; sons, Ricky and Isac Parcels; beloved grandson, Levi Parcels; siblings, Susan Jarema, Larry (Sue) Hough and Jim (Sheryl) Hough; stepsister, Jeanice Orin; stepmother, Bessie Hough, several nieces and nephews and faithful dog, Poncho. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Helen Hough. |
