Donald was born in Flint, Michigan on November 9, 1929, the son of Edward and Anne E. (Felo) Klump. He suffered the loss of his father as the result of a car/train accident as a young teen and later lived with his step-mother, Rosemary Wismer. Donald was a proud graduate of Port Huron High School, Class of 1948.

After graduation, Donald enlisted in the USMC and served during the Korean Conflict while stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was educated in drafting and map making and was honorably discharged in 1952, earning the Good Conduct Medal.

While on leave, his parents introduced him to their neighbor, Cathryn E. Davidek, who would become his loving wife. On July 17, 1954, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flint, the two were joined in marriage. They celebrated 52 years together, when Cathryn passed away in 2015.

From this union, three children were born: Timothy (Diane) Klump, Bethany (Timothy) Maurer, and Amy Klump. Donald was blessed with three grandchildren, Bryan Klump, Matthew (Amy) Klump, and Emily (Scott) Herriman and six great-grandchildren, Benjamin, William, and Calvin Klump and Jack, Max, and Isabella Herriman.

Form Don’s military training, his career developed into architectural drafting and home design for many years. He retired from Genesee County’s HUD program in 1991. Following retirement, he enjoyed many projects including woodworking, working on cars with his son and watching football and the Detroit Tigers. He especially treasured his time with his family at Higgins Lake.

Donald is survived by his children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Edward Sekelsky, and many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cathryn; parents; stepmother; and parents-in-law, Helen and Cecil Szepanski and Marion Sekelsky.

A special thank you to Donald’s outstanding caregivers: Lois, Berdette, Tammy, Ashley, Pam, and Char and McLaren Hospice.

“Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21
