Joe was born in Kennett, MO, on October 10, 1934, son of the late Lloyd and Virgie (Page) Crawford. On October 15, 1952, Joe married his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy Dewitt. Joe and Dorothy enjoyed 72 years of marriage until her passing on May 19, 2025. Joe retired from General Motors in 1988, following 33 years of dedicated service. Gifted with remarkable skill and creativity, he devoted his life to working with his hands and built two of the homes that he and Dorothy shared. His love for craftsmanship extended to painting, restoring classic cars, and creating works of art. One of his proudest accomplishments was being chosen to repair and paint the car now displayed in the Sloan Museum of Discovery in Flint, MI. In his retirement, Joe continued to share his talents, working alongside his dear friends, Jim and Judy, to bring Jim’s designs to life. A man of many passions, he bred and trained horses, crafted buggies and harnesses, and took great joy in the world he built around them. Whether working with wood, paint, or steel, Joe had a gift for turning vision into reality. He was also a devoted member of the Flint Baptist Temple, where his faith was a guiding light in his life. His hands built, his heart cared, and his life’s work touched all who knew him.
Joe is survived by 4 children, Debra (Edward) Secord, Janet (Mike O’Neil) Blake, Dennis (Patty) Crawford and Keith (Sandi) Crawford; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Mark (Lois) Crawford; many other loving family members and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Virgie Crawford; wife, Dorothy Crawford; granddaughter, Becky Walters and 6 siblings.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and caregivers of Hampton Manor of Burton and Residential Hospice of Lapeer for their compassionate and professional care.
