GEROW, Carol Hazel (Simmonds) - of Mt. Morris, MI, age 79, passed away on May 19, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held 1 PM Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Christian Faith Church, 2451 East Mt. Morris Road, Mt. Morris, MI. 48458; Pastor Jan Duce officiating. Visitation will be 10 AM-1 PM Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Christian Faith Church. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Richfield Church of the Nazarene in Carol’s name.
Carol was born on December 23, 1941 in Goodrich, MI, daughter of the late Reginald and Gale (Decker) Simmonds. She grew up in Genesee and graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1960. Carol married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Edward Gerow on July 15, 1961. They shared just shy of 56 wonderful years together before Bob sadly passed on. Together, they raised two daughters, Jonell Eddy and Kaylene (Roger) Gabriel. They enjoyed their grandchildren, Jacob and Andrea Gabriel, Jared and Alexandria (Alex) Gabriel, Jordan Gabriel, Richard and Noel Eddy and Scott and Shantel Eddy. The apples of mom’s eye were her great-grandkids, Khileigh, Grayson, Layne and Jackson.
Carol was employed by Kearsley Community Schools feeding thousands of students in her 20 plus years of service. You could always find her trying to feed her grandsons and their friends no matter what time of day or night it was. In fact, she was known for making cookies for the boys and their friends. Mom was also always creating something, she made dolls, bedspreads, doll clothing, doilies and Barbie Doll clothing, as well as Afghans. She also made amazing Hungarian pastries. Carol was always one of her grandson’s biggest fans, supporting them at all their sporting and school events. She was a member and a greeter at the Richfield Church of the Nazarene.
Left to cherish Carol’s memory are her two daughters; son-in-law; grandkids; great-grandkids; sister and brother-in-law, Lila (Lou) and Billy Templeton; special niece, Stacie and Nick Gergley and Scott and Kristy Hitchcock. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joane Gerow; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are her Mt. Morris Road neighbors along with her Port Austin neighbors and Kearsley friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband and many sister-in-laws and brother-in laws.
A special thanks goes to Absolute Hospice nurses, Kim, Rose, Misty and Kendra for being so wonderful to mom. You ladies are simply a true blessing. A special thank you to Dr. Cheri Mys as well for your loving care of mom. Above all a special thanks to Karen Majeski for becoming part of our family and taking such great care of mom. Last of all a very special thanks to Aunt Lou for your unending love, support and help. A thank you also to Pastor Jan Duce and everyone at Richfield Church of the Nazarene for all the prayers, love and support.
