PIPER, Mary Elizabeth – of Burton, MI, age 70 years, passed away January 6, 2020 at her residence. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12 PM Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Calvert Park Community Church of God, 2341 N. Genesee Road, Burton, MI 48509; Rev. Arlyn Willett officiating. Visitation will be from 11 AM until time of service on Saturday, February 1, 2020.
Mary was born September 15, 1949 in Flint, MI to the late Lester Laverne and Dorothy Anna (Schmidtke) Hollinger. She married Richard Piper. They spent many happy years together with their animals, who they regarded as their children. Sofie (German Shepherd) and Lily (Great Pyrenees) have been adopted by Mary’s family. Some of her “children” were certified therapy pets and together they helped and comforted many people visiting hospitals and the patients within. She was a lover of nature and gardening, and was a very giving person, overly generous with those she loved. Mary was a wonderful artist, she made many beautiful works that will be cherished by her family.
Mary is survived by mother-in-law, Leah Piper; sisters-in-law; Myra Piper, Beth (Michael) Morin, Mary (Mark) Krontz, Barbara (Matthew) Hargett and Karen Hollinger-Harlow; nieces and nephews, Keith Morin, Jennifer Boice, Carissa Buck, Caitlyn Garber, Dustin Krontz, Amanda Hargett, Travis Hargett, Jesse Hargett, Pamela Parish and Christopher Hollinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother James Wesley Hollinger.
