HAMMERSLEY, James Lawrence – of Montrose, age 82, died Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at his residence. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, April 20, 2026 at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose, Michigan. Pastor Jim Beardsley officiating. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive visitors on Monday, April 20, 2026 from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the family for future designation.
James was born June 12, 1943 in Flint, Michigan to the late Raymond and Kathryn (Christman) Hammersley. He grew up in Flushing, Michigan and attended Flushing High School. On December 1, 1980 he married Sandra Collier and she preceded him in death on January 17, 2013. Prior to his retirement in 2001, James was a Metal Finisher at GM at the Truck & Bus Plant with 36 years of service. He was a member of the Montrose Family Worship Center and the UAW Local 598. James enjoyed camping and taking his truck to car shows all over Michigan. He was an avid stock car racing fan and was a crew member for Johnny Belott.
Surviving are: Children, Michael (Mary) Hammersley, Joyce Hammersley, Steven (Lisa) Hammersley; Step - Children, Craig (Laurie) Woodfield, Lee (Stephanie) Woodfield; Grandchildren, Andrea (Don) Trobaugh, Jamie Staley, Rachael (Steve) Germak, Christopher (Erika) Hammersley, Nicole Hammersley, Dustin (Shelby) Hammersley, Steven (Elise) Hammersley, Candice (James) Warner, Douglas (Ashley) Woodfield, Amber (Justin), Keifer Woodfield, Amanda Walters, Autumn (Brennen) Brinker, Matthew Walters, Jennifer England; several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Wife, Sandra Hammersley; Granddaughter, Alexa Rose; Siblings, Don Hammersley, Jerry Hammersley.
