HAGGARD, Dalton R. “Bob” Jr. – of Flint, age 87, passed away April 4, 2014 at Homewood Village. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 6336 Roberta St., Burton; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Burial, with Military Honors will take place at 2:30 PM Tuesday at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-6 PM Sunday and 2-4 & 6-8 PM Monday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Monday followed by a Memorial Service under the auspices of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post #8. There will be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the Mass on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Diocesan Senior Priests Residence or the Croatian Slovene Home Corp.
Bob was born in Cleveland, OH on February 22, 1927, son of the late Dalton and Olga (Olsen) Haggard. He moved to Detroit at an early age and graduated there from McKenzie High School. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, in the Philippines. He married Barbara Roda on November 4, 1967 at Sacred Heart Church. Bob worked at Downtown Buick and then Eastside Buick until its closing in 1973. He then moved to Buick Engineering Specifications Dept. until his retirement in 1987. Bob was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he ushered Saturday Evening Mass from 1979 until 2010. He was a 50-year member of S.N.P.J. Lodge #459. He also served on the Executive Board of Directors for the Croatian Slovene Home Corporation and was a member of P.L.A.V. Post #8. Bob enjoyed walking his Boston Terriers, the works of Richard Feynman, and trips to the casino.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Brenda and husband, Anthony Stimac; son, Brian and wife, Shelly Hoffman; two step granddaughters; one step great-grandson; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Juanita Baker; infant son, Robert, and daughter, Bethany A. Haggard.
