GIOVENTU, John F. - Of Burton, age 77, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Ascension Genesys Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Visitation 11:00am on Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery at 1:30pm with military honors under the auspices of the United States Army.
John was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada on April 25, 1946, the son of Evelyn and Jim Gioventu. On August 15, 1998, he married JoAnn Benson. John served in the First Calvary during Vietnam. He was an avid golfer and sports fan. He loved to talk sports and politics. John was a proud Canadian and loved the Montreal Canadians. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards and was quite a pool player. John also played and coached youth hockey. John retired from Flint Truck Assembly in 1995 and was a proud UAW member.
Surviving are wife, JoAnn Gioventu;
daughter, Angie (Gioventu) Armstrong and husband Eric;
grandchildren, Abbey and Jack;
former wife and friend, Pat Murphy;
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a charity of one’s choice.
