Florence “Elaine” Thompson, of Flushing, age 84, died Monday, December
21, 2020, at Hurley Medical Center. Cremation has taken place. A
memorial service will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial
contributions may be made to the Flushing United Methodist Church or
Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Elaine was born in Flushing, Michigan on December 22, 1935, the daughter
of John W. and Ilda (Confer) McIntosh. She married Gilbert Thompson on
July 30, 1954, at Flushing United Methodist Church. Elaine graduated from
U of M-Flint in 1973 with a Bachelor’s Degree in education. She was a U of
M Alumni, as well as a member of the Eastern Stars. She had many
interests: researching her family genealogy, working in her yard, and doing
puzzles. She loved to travel, spend the winters in St. Cloud, Florida, and
also enjoyed an occasional ride in the convertible. She was a strong
woman and a hard worker, the qualities needed to build a home and raise
six children, but she had a good sense of fun as well. She will be greatly
missed by her family and friends.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Gilbert; children, Brian Thompson, Greg
Thompson, Christie (Robert) Watkins, Vickie Thompson, Denise (David)
Redumski; grandchildren, Bradley, Philip, Alanna, Steven, Jeanette,
Joshua, Christopher, Melissa, Mindy; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Wilda
“Willie”; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by her son, Gerald and his wife Jeanean; brother, Russell “Rusty”; sister,
Laura, and nephew John. |
