Sadie Rebecca Zapata (Steward), passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101 years, 10 months, and 18 days. She passed away at her residence in Davison, surrounded by the love and comfort of her two daughters and loyal cat, Sweetie.
Sadie R. Steward was born September 2, 1924, to the late William and Eva (Potter) Steward in Au Gres, MI. Throughout her life, Sadie was a hardworking woman. She took pride in her work and in helping provide for her family. Outside of work, she found joy in crocheting and other crafts, creating countless handmade blankets and keepsakes that her family will treasure for generations. Her love and creativity live on through the many pieces she made, each serving as a lasting reminder of her caring hands. She also enjoyed spending time up north, fishing and visiting the casino, where she loved trying her luck.
Sadie was married to the love of her life, Catalino "Chick" Zapata, on November 20, 1943. They were married for 72 years before his passing in 2016. In their younger years, they enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in Au Gres and later Houghton Lake. In their later years, they were active members of The Moose Lodge and The Eagles, where they made many lasting friendships.
Sadie will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her generous heart, the beautiful handmade gifts she shared with those she loved, and the many memories she created with family and friends.
Sadie is survived by her loving children, Gailene Adams and Roxann Boisclair; grandchildren, Angela (Wade) Adams-Roller, Danielle Adams, Dawn Smith, J.C. (Margaret) Adams, Brieanna Boisclair and Christian (Cheyenne) Boisclair; great-grandchildren, Kalsie, Jackson, Aria, Harper, Diesel, EmmaLeah, and Caloleena; two great-great-grandsons, Elijah and Ezra; and many other loving family members and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Sadie was preceded in death by sons-in-law, Larry and John; granddaughter, Alicia; five sisters and two brothers.
Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate Sadie's life and honor her memory. A Funeral Service will be 11 AM on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Dave Weir and Jennifer Courtland co-officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family will welcome visitors from 11 AM until 7PM on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the funeral home. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Saturday.
