Kershaw, Ian Bradford- age 59 of Flushing, MI and Sun City, AZ passed away on May 6, 2025
Funeral service will be 2 pm Friday, May 23, 2025, at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W. Hill Rd. Flint.
Visitation will be 2-8 pm Thursday, May 22, 2025, and Friday from 1 pm till the time of service.
Ian was born in Flint, Michigan on June 13, 1965, to Ray and Nellie Kershaw.
Ian attended Ainsworth High School before studying business at Mott Community College.
He retired from the Pontiac Police Department as a canine officer, after which he joined the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, continuing his role as a canine handler. He received many awards and acknowledgements for his service to the people of the State of Michigan.
Known lovingly as “The Professor,” Ian enjoyed traveling and eating good food. He was an avid martial artist, having earned multiple black belts. He loved deer hunting in the fall. He also loved karaoke, and dancing, anywhere at any time. The thing he loved most was driving fast, whether it was in his SS Camaro or his motorcycles.
Ian was preceded in death by his mother and father, Nellie and Ray Kershaw, nephew John Moore, adopted mother Marvenia Diem and his two K9 partners Bantay and Knight. He is survived by his adopted father Raymond Diem; sister Audry Hill; brothers Marvin Diem, Jeff Owens, James Farris, Joseph Dorris and Daniel Black; former wife Penny and stepdaughter Samantha; Nieces Tiffany and Melissa; nephew Miles; grand-nieces Madison, Clare, Gracie and Lily; grand-nephews Alexander and Lucas; and special friend Chrissy. Along with countless family, friends and workmates who loved him dearly.
