Rosemary M. Leszczynski, of Flushing, Michigan, age 86, died Friday, October 22, 2021 after a months long battle with an infection and Pneumonia worsened by a new diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a blood cancer. Her body could battle no more and is now at peace.
Rosemary was born in Detroit, Michigan at Harper Hospital on November 27, 1934 to Francis A. and Marion R. (Mercier) Grady. She attended school at St. Mary’s of Redford and an all girls Catholic school, Our Lady of Mercy High School in Detroit, MI. She later went to Highland Park Junior College and received her Medical Assistant certification in Phlebotomy. She met her husband, James C. Leszczynski, on a blind date, later marrying on July 27, 1963. She worked primarily as a homemaker in addition to jobs as an Avon sales representative, and Greeter at Rossell’s Funeral Home. She would frequently be found lending her time and money to many charitable causes including being a volunteer and Board Member of Heartbeat of Greater Flint, and member of the Friends of the Flushing Library, amongst many.
She loved to read, listen to WJR-radio, sewing, dogs, birds, Fall and all things Christmas. She is remembered by many as always smiling, spunky, spontaneous and that fun Aunt. In honor of her signature bright lipstick she was known to wear, we invite those attending her service to wear red or hot pink lipstick and/or a splash or color.
Rosemary is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband of 58 years, James; children, Laura L. (John K.) Costa, Karen M. (Joseph M.) Boike, and Catherine R. (Patrick J. Knight) Haley; grandchildren, Andrew Costa, Leah Costa, Rachel Costa, Allison (Tom) Sublett, Taylor (Nick) Carley, Courtney Boike, Katie Boike, Nina Haley, Anthony Haley, Donny Haley, Lauren Knight, and Sam Knight; great-grandchildren, Adeline, Rosalie, and Magnolia Sublett; and sisters-in-law, Suzanne Lareau (Grady), Maryann Grady, and Joan Newman. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Gloria Washington, Tom Grady, and Frank Grady; siblings-in-law, Larry and Mary Lou Shea and Edward Newman.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021 at St. Robert Catholic Church., Flushing, MI. Fr. Jonathan Perrotta will officiate. Visitation will be 12-8 p.m. Thursday, October 28 at Rossell Funeral Home, Flushing, with a 7 p.m. Rosary service, and 10 a.m. visitation Friday at the church until the time of the Mass. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Carriage Town Ministries in Flint.
