She confessed her belief and first love to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age where she attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Letha graduated from Peabody H.S. in Alexandria where she received an award for her cooking skills which lead later in her life to be known as Bread Lady in Idlewild/Baldwin Michigan. Upon graduation she moved to Flint, MI where she met and was united in marriage to Uel Othello "Bubba" Metcalfe until his death February 11, 1976. Through this union Letha gave birth to four daughters and six sons. While in Flint, Letha attended First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and Mt. Zion. After the death of her husband she moved to Baldwin, MI and united with Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Leroy Childress where Mother Metcalfe was a faithful member until illness prevented her from attending.

Letha was a Boy Scout Leader at Cook Elementary School, Flint, MI. Upon moving to Baldwin she was very involved with her local government. She was a Trustee for Weber Township for over 20 years and she was the longest serving elected official in the township. She was honored with a park being named in her honor.
