HOFFMAN, Stewart James – of Genesee, age 74, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on August 31, 2023. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Jon Bauldry officiating. Burial, with Military Honors by the Flint Detachment Post #155 will follow in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-7 PM Wednesday and 10 AM until time of service on Thursday at Allen Funeral Home. A Memorial Service under the auspices of the Davison FOE #3589 will be held at 6:30 PM Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Genesee High School Athletic Program in Stewart’s name.
Stewart was born on August 10, 1949, son of Joseph C. & Lois B. (Rockwell) Hoffman. He married the love of his life, Cheryl Lynn Prine, on October 2, 1976, at the First Baptist Church of Davison (MI). Together they had 3 beautiful daughters: Jodi (John) Porter (Erie, PA); Nicole (Robert) Wingate (Lake, MI); & Stefanie (Justin) Heddy (Burton, MI). Lovingly known to everyone as “Stu,” he served his country proudly as a US Marine during Vietnam before working for the City of Flint Water Department. He was an avid outdoorsman, a member of the Davison Eagles, the AM Vets, and he was extremely active with sports at Genesee High School, where he graduated. He was always quick with a joke or a funny story. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife; daughters; two grandsons, John Arthur Porter III & Evan James Porter; his sister, Jane (Ray)Thornton; brothers, Joseph (Carmen) Hoffman & George (Chelly) Hoffman; brother & sisters-in-law, Fred & Weezie Gauthier, Gary & Elaine Prine, and Mary Hoffman (wife of brother, Stephen); and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his mother & father-in-law, Bernard & Alice (Suerwier) Prine; and his brother, Stephen Douglas Hoffman. The family would like to thank the staff of Serenity Assisted Living for their loving care and support for Stu.
