Hogan, Alvina “Dorothy” of Flushing, age 89, died Monday, January 30, 2023, at her home. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2023, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Jonathan Perrotta will officiate. Private burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made for Masses at St. Robert or to the wishes of the family.
Dorothy was born in The Bronx, New York on December 2, 1933, the daughter of Karl and Mary (Sakowske) Bieling. She married Robert Hogan on November 10, 1956, in Detroit. He preceded her in death on February 5, 2013. Dorothy spent her career as a Head Start Teacher for many school districts in the area. After her retirement she enjoyed volunteering at Elms Elementary, Majestic Care (formerly Fostrian Manor) and McLaren. She was an active and faithful parishioner of St. Robert Catholic Church where she attended daily Mass and took communion to the homebound. Together with her husband, they enjoyed vacationing in Camp Dearborn and Florida. Dorothy was an avid reader and enjoyed embroidery.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Valerie and husband Gary Schroeder, Judy and husband Carl Sheko, Donna Hogan, Patrick Hogan, John Hogan, Robert and wife Sue Hogan, Marie Hogan, Dorothy and husband Dan McLeod; grandchildren, Justin Schroeder, Jacqueline Cooper, Sara Lynch, Melissa Sheko, Joshua Sheko, Jalen Hogan, Paige Rumsey, Brooke Rumsey, Nicholas McLeod; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brothers, Walter Bieling and Al Bieling. |
