Shirley A. Clark, of Flushing, age 86, died May 28, 2021, at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Flushing Area Library or the Flushing Area Historical Society.
Shirley Ann Young was born in Clayton Township, MI on December 16, 1934, the daughter of Kenneth V. and Kathryn (Merz) Young. She graduated from Flushing Senior High School in 1952. She married David Clark in Flushing on July 10, 1954. After graduation she worked for People's State Bank before staying home to raise her three children. She then returned to work outside the home in 1964 at Supertest Petroleum, before going to work for the city of Flushing in 1966. There she served as the City Clerk for 20 years before retiring in 1987. During her time as clerk, she attended Michigan State University for various continuing professional education in the areas of election law and public administration.
She is survived by three children: Douglas (Gloria) Clark of Flushing, MI; Carol Kline of Flushing, MI; Nancy (Carl) Mittelstadt of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren: Kimberly (Daniel Ing) Vaughn, Matthew (Erica Sovey) Vaughn, Megan (Nick) Mittelstadt Colvard, Patrick (Nicole) Mittelstadt, Katrina (Andrew Eccles) Clark, Ericson, Einar, and Princess Abad; great-grandchildren: Andrew and Katherine Colvard; brother: Philip "Sonny" (Cam) Young; sisters-in-law: Nancy Young, Barbara Gleasure, Marty Clark; many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family; her faithful companions Maggie and Jack.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, David, her parents, her brothers Orville, Ronald, and Gary Young, and son-in-law Buck Kline.
