Marie Gerding of Davison, age 83, died Tuesday April 27, 2021 at Charter Senior Living of Davison. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon Wednesday May 5, 2021 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 494 Dayton St. Davison. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski, Celebrant with inurment at St. John Mausoleum to follow. Family will receive visitors from 11:00 am Wednesday until time of services at the church. Those desiring may make contributions in Marie’s memory to Outreach East.
Marie was born in Flint Michigan on September 25, 1937 the daughter of the late Bessie & Carl Kiefer. Marie was joined in marriage to Blake Gerding on January 19, 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on February 10, 2015.
Marie was a 1955 graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic School. Marie was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for many years. She sang in the choir and its’ members became her dear friends. She was a member of St. Ann Guild. One of her favorite quotes was, “No Jesus, No Peace, Know Jesus, Know Peace.
Marie had a gentle spirit and enjoyed nature, watching birds, and tending to her plants and flowers. Marie valued family most of all. She was married for nearly sixty years and was a devoted mother to six children. She was a hardworking homemaker for not only her own children but also many neighborhood children. She wanted to be remembered as a person who cared for everyone.
She is survived by her children: David (Tina) Gerding, Thomas (Darlene) Gerding, Kenneth (Christine) Gerding, Kathleen (Jeffery) Atwell, Christine (Barry) Church, Joseph (Sheri) Gerding and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Also surviving are sisters-in-laws; Shirley Dreasky and Charlotte Kalakay. “The family would like to extend their thanks to the caring staff at Charter Assisted Living of Davison. She loved them.
