Bard, Gordon Leroy - of Mt. Morris, age 89, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 10AM Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Home Missionary Baptist Church – 8475 N. Saginaw Rd., in Mt. Morris. Pastor Matt Rowland officiating. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Monday from 2PM until 8PM, and at the church on Tuesday from 9AM until the time of service at 10AM. Burial will be 2PM Tuesday in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Home Missionary Baptist Church.
Gordon was born August 23, 1934, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Lewis A. and Merodine B. (Beach) Bard. He graduated from Mt. Morris High School. Gordon married Barbara June Craven on December 3, 1955, at East Grand Boulevard Methodist Church. Mr. bard served in the U.S. Navy and is a proud Korean War Veteran, he also served in the U.S. Army Reserve. Gordon retired from AC in 1990 with over 35 years seniority and was a member of the UAW Local #651. He enjoyed building show cars, bowling, golfing, camping, being grandpa, and sports - especially softball. Gordon was a long-time umpire in organized softball leagues and worked many tournaments throughout the Great Lakes. He was an avid UofM football and Detroit Tigers fan.
Surviving are: Wife, Barbara Bard of Mt. Morris; Sons: Michael Bard of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mark Bard of Mt. Morris; Daughter, Luanne (Bill) Hammond of Auburndale, Florida; Brother, Jerry (Marjorie) Matheson of Clio; 9 grandchildren: Ryan, Benjamin, Rachelle, Krista, Amanda, Mitchell, Shannon, Darcey, and Paige; 9 great-grandchildren: Liam, Michael, Zoe, Carly, Scarlett, Gavin, Shiree, Brandon, and Valerie; Many nieces and nephews. Gordon was also preceded in death by: Son, Mitchell; Brothers: Wayne, Ralph, and Herb; Sisters: Joyce, and Judy Ann; Stepfather, Archie “Dick” Matheson.
