Michael Patrick Magill Leach – Of Ann Arbor, MI, age 43, passed away January 28, 2024, while on vacation in Cartagena, Columbia.
Michael was born on August 8, 1980 in Flint, MI to Kathleen O’Brien and Martin Leach.
Part of his childhood was spent in Flushing, MI before moving to Saline, where he graduated from high school in 1998. Mike attended The University of Michigan and fiercely loved his alma
mater and the Ann Arbor area. Upon graduation, he moved to Florida and started a career in sales, eventually returning to Ann Arbor to be closer to family and friends. Mike was crushing it
working as a Sales Representative for ETNA Supply and loved his job, his co-workers and his clients.
While Mike was a spontaneous, free spirit always up for an adventure, he was equally content to support a friend through deep conversation or engage in esoteric philosophical intricacies of life.
Mike was a lover of the outdoors, including countless escapades at Batchville, biking endless miles in flip flops, boating on lakes across Michigan, swimming in the ocean, hiking and
foraging. You name it, Mike was all in. He loved movies and telling you everything he knew about them as you watched. We called it “Mike Vision”, which commonly turned a two hour movie into a five hour informational labyrinth. Mike was passionate about music, he played the guitar, loved concerts, and would sing with friends on porches or around bonfire; he curated playlists, collected vinyl, and was obsessed with sharing his latest find with anyone willing to
listen. Mike also loved good food, he explored restaurants in Ann Arbor, Detroit, and during his travels. His love of food extended to anyone’s kitchen brave enough to allow his T-rex arms to
destroy their space in service of some good grub!
Mike had an insatiable appetite for knowledge, he loved reading and sharing everything he learned with others. We still aren’t sure how so much information could fit in his beautiful brain!
Mike had an infectious smile and a quick wit. He made new friends everywhere he went, and once a friend, you were a friend for life. Mike could make any person feel they were heard, their pain and passions understood and treasured. Although he traveled the world, what he most enjoyed was being home to spend time with his family and friends.
Michael is survived by his parents, Kathleen O’Brien, Marty and Sheryl Leach;
grandparents, James and Donna Leach and Letizia Guerra (Mama D);
siblings, Rebecca Leach (Joel Jarvis), Philip Leach (Kelly Langen), Ryan Dobbs (Jamie) and Bethany Butler (Peter);
nieces and nephews, Victoria Volway, Jacob Volway (Lex Pettingill), Mia Jozwiak, Garrett and Donovan Leach, Cierra DuFour (Jake), Cross Dobbs, Bennett and Anna Butler;
great-nephews, Casen Volway and Crue DuFour;
girlfriend, Aubrey Thornton Martinson;
also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and great friends.
Michael is preceded in death by his grandparents, Barbara and Patrick O’Brien, James S. Ryan, Jean Odle;
step-father, Giovanni D’Andrea;
The family will host a visitation 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024 and visitation 12 p.m. and funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Swartz Funeral Home 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, MI.
The family will host a celebration of Mike’s life at a future date.
