Inurnment in Great Lakes National Cemetery in the future. Judy was born on February 4, 1942, in Saginaw, Michigan, to her parents, John and Helen (Vollmer) Schmidt. She graduated from Kalkaska High School in 1960 and was proud to represent her hometown as Miss Kalkaska. She went on to earn her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1962 from Lansing Community College and immediately began her career at McLaren Hospital in Flint, where she worked as a compassionate and dedicated nurse for more than 35 years.

It was at McLaren where Judy met her future sister-in-law Sharon, who set her up on a blind date with Randy Baker. It was truly a match made in heaven. Judy and Randy were married on May 2, 1964, and just celebrated 62 years of marriage. Their unconditional love and lifelong commitment to one another was a true testament to devotion and a beautiful example of lasting love.

Judy was an avid seamstress from a very young age and learned to quilt during her retirement years. She loved playing cards and was always eager to teach family and friends new games, including Garden Salad and 7’s. She enjoyed baking, crafting, and shopping, all of which she happily shared with her daughters, granddaughters, and friends. Judy’s baking skills were top-notch, and she was especially known for her many delicious desserts, including her infamous peanut butter no-bakes and her lemon merengue pie.

Judy and Randy always loved camping and traveling together. They enjoyed trips throughout the state of Michigan, as well as a memorable 17-day trip out west in their truck camper with their friends in the “Gross Group.” After Judy’s retirement in 1997, she loved spending her summers at Holiday Shores in Durand where she enjoyed golf cart rides, cookouts, and time spent with many friends and family. She enjoyed being part of the sewing club, including making quilts for veterans of the park as part of the Quilts of Valor program.

Judy was able to live her snowbird dreams in Plant city Florida for 12 wonderful winters. She enjoyed time with friends and family, “happy hours”, shopping at flea markets and Bealls, and, of course, the best strawberry shortcakes at Parkesdale.

Judy leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love in her husband, Randy; her beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle & Randy Gebhardt and Jill & Jerry Williams; her cherished grandchildren, Erika (Kyle) Chrysler, Madison (Devin) LaMere, Myranda (Sarah) Williams, and Chase Gebhardt; and her adored great-grandchildren, Alivia, Abbiegail, Jack & Paige Chrysler, and Lainey, Addilyn & Jade LaMere. She will also be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Barb Schmidt; and many beloved in-laws, including parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
