KREFELD, Stephan “Steve” Henry of Grand Blanc, age 88 years, completed his earthly journey and entered into the presence of his Savior, Jesus, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, after a short stay at Henry Ford Health Genesys Hospital. A service to remember and celebrate his life will take place on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 11:00am at New Life Christian Fellowship (2237 Reid Road, Grand Blanc, MI), with visitation from 10:00am until the time of the service. Visitation will also take place on Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 4:00-6:00pm at Swartz Funeral Home (1225 W Hill Road, Flint, MI).
Steve was born in Flint, Michigan on June 17, 1936, to Herman and Alice (McPherson) Krefeld. He graduated from St. Matthews High School in 1954 and went on to earn a degree in accounting from Baker College. Steve was employed at DuPont for 4 years before starting at IBM in 1959, where he worked in accounting and sales for over 35 years. He was a hard worker, knowledgeable, well-liked and excelled in his work, winning the Regional Award for the Midwest in 1980. While playing the piano at a dance for the School of Nursing in Flint, he met the love of his life, Rosemary Ann Brown. They were married on July 14, 1962, and shared almost 50 years of marriage. Together they built a life and family with God as the center. His love and devotion to his beautiful wife and family was evident and he provided a spiritual legacy which will continue for generations. He treasured times with his children and grandchildren and was supportive and encouraging of their dreams and very proud of their accomplishments.
From a young age, Steve enjoyed spending time outdoors. He tended to the family fruit trees, grapes, and gardens. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish, especially with his brother. Even if the deer and pheasants were elusive or there weren’t many fish caught, there was lots of comradery, laughter and stories shared. When you think of Steve, you can’t help but hear his humorous wise cracks and contagious laughter. He was always teasing and joking around with those he loved. He was a huge sports fan, watching all types and teams - hunting, golf, football, basketball, baseball and hockey, the University of Michigan, Red Wings, Tigers, Lions, and Patriots – usually flipping channels between several sporting events. Frequently you would find him tuned in to The Price is Right, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and other game shows, most of the time guessing more accurately than the contestants.
Steve was a generous person with a tender heart. He had a burden and passion to feed the poor, tearing up at the mere thought of someone going without food. From 2001-2017, he was the Director of The Storehouse at Riverside Tabernacle (now Every Nation Assembly of God), coordinating and distributing boxes of food for those in need. He worked tirelessly along with a team of volunteers to feed as many as possible, mentoring others along the way.
Music has been an important part of Steve’s life. He was gifted with an incredible tenor voice and shared his talent with others. He was part of a male chorus, on the worship team at church and participated in various cantatas. He sang numerous solos and when he did, it was so powerful, one would get goose bumps and be brought to tears. He was a self-taught musician, playing the piano, accordion and harmonicas, entertaining many throughout his lifetime. During the past 11 years, he thoroughly enjoyed his weekly “jam sessions” and being a part of the Halsey Old Timers band. He looked forward to playing his harmonica at various gigs, especially Zhender’s Snowfest in Frankenmuth.
Steve knew his purpose in life was to pray for others. He was a prayer warrior with a faith which moved mountains. He prayed for his family and friends daily, as well as for anyone needing a touch from God. He
quoted Bible verses and entire chapters from memory, a favorite being Psalm 91. Steve’s deepest desire was to know his family and those he loves have a personal relationship with Jesus so he would see them again in Heaven someday.
Steve is well loved and will be missed by many. Surviving are his beloved daughters Krista (Tom) Freier and Kara (Samuel) Wang; grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher, Victoria, and Matthew; brother, Norman (Sandy) Krefeld; special friend, Sue Jeffes; extended family including nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws; the Halsey Old Timers and numerous friends. Steve was proceeded in death by his dear wife, Rosemary, his parents, and his cherished sister, Marianna.
To honor Steve’s passion for feeding and caring for those in need, in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Center of Hope (10401 Fenton Road, Fenton, MI 48430) or Every Nation Assembly of God – The Storehouse (429 NB Chavez Drive, Flint, MI 48503).
