Lyda Rose Miller, aged 89, of Owosso, Michigan, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
A funeral service to celebrate Lyda's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the First Congregational Church, located at 327 North Washington Street in Owosso, Michigan. Burial will follow the service, with Lyda laid to rest at 2:00 PM at Flint Memorial Park, located at 9056 Dort Highway in Mount Morris, Michigan.
Visitation will take place on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes - Jennings-Lyons Chapel, located at 520 West Main Street in Owosso, Michigan. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visitation will also continue at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
Lyda was born on May 18, 1937, in Flint, Michigan, to Frank and Agnes Decator. She graduated from Flint Technical High School and later attended the Flint School of Beauty, ultimately earning her cosmetology license. For 17 years, she served as the secretary at Kearsley High School, where she was appreciated for her professionalism, organization, and kindness.
On May 28, 1958, Lyda married the love of her life, David Robert Miller, in Flint, Michigan. The two shared 54 wonderful years of marriage until David's passing on July 8, 2012.
A dedicated member of the First Congregational Church in Owosso, Lyda formed many meaningful friendships and was an active part of her church community. She was known for her kindness, intelligence, wit, dry sense of humor, and unwavering determination.
Lyda had a creative spirit and loved painting, quilting, and many sorts of arts and crafts. She even utilized her sewing talents to make drapery for Sears. Although she considered herself more of an indoor person, she enjoyed traveling, especially on trips to Colorado with her daughters.
Lyda also found joy in canning, listening to music, and attending concerts by her favorite artist, Neil Diamond. Additionally, she served as a Girl Scout leader while her daughters were growing up, creating lasting memories and experiences for many young girls.
Lyda is survived by her daughters, Mary (James) Kinney and Alice (Richard) Cary; her grandchildren, David Hutcheson and Kyle (Shirin) Koski; and her great-granddaughter, Esme Koski. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Miller; her daughter, Susan Miller; and her parents, Frank and Agnes Decator.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lyda's name to the First Congregational Church of Owosso.
