MCQUARTERS, Shirley Jean – of Birch Run, age 82, died May 12, 2023 at her daughter’s home after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run, Michigan. Burial in Birch Run Township Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the family for future designation.
Shirley was born December 24, 1940 in Flint to the late John and Carmaleda (Whitaker) Sutto. She grew up in Birch Run, Michigan and graduated from Birch Run High School in 1958. On October 9, 1959 she married the love of her life William McQuarters and enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Bill preceded her in death on November 3, 2015. Prior to her retirement in 2020, Shirley was the owner and operator of Shirley Jean’s retail shop in Shipshewana, Indiana for over 30 years. She served on the Birch Run School Board, was a cheerleader coach, and a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, camping, and especially horses. However, her greatest joy in life was her family , especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are: Children, Bill (Cathy) McQuarters, Christopher McQuarters, Lori (Thomas) Danks, Lisa Sperling, Michelle (Hugh) McQuarters; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; she was the oldest of 7 children and preceded in death by her Parents; Husband, William McQuarters; Grandson, Ian McQuarters (2011); and Brother, John Sutto.
