O’CONNOR, Michelle (Duquette) – of Davison, MI, age 87, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022. Per Michelle’s request, cremation has taken place and a Graveside Service will be held on a later date at Davison Cemetery. Those desiring may make a memorial contribution to the Humane Society of Genesee County or Adopt-A-Pet, Inc (Fenton), in Michelle’s memory.
Michelle was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 25, 1935. She was raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, and came to the United States in 1956. Michelle spent many years in Millington and Vassar before moving to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where she lived for 16 years. In Florida, she worked as a private duty nurse. Michelle married Frank O’Connor on October 8, 1986 in Pompano Beach, FL and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1989. She then returned to Michigan to be near her family. Michelle retired from Allen Funeral Home in 1998. She lived her life helping others and giving her time to those in need, volunteering at Ascension Genesys Hospital and Brian’s Hospice House in Davison, MI. Throughout her life, Michelle was always humble and authentic, opening herself up to be a comfort and help to others, and using her wonderful sense of humor to bring laughter to all. She was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and the Davison Senior Center. Michelle was a loving mother and grandmother. She lived for her daughter and two grandsons, sharing in their every success, encouraging through every challenge, and supporting through adversity.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Sue Kocks of Grand Blanc, MI; 2 grandsons, Geoffrey Kocks of Cambridge, MA and Jonathan Kocks of Brooklyn, NY; nephew, Barry (Laurie) Draper; niece, Pam Arnold; 4 great-nieces, Lauren, Madeline and Kelly Chopski and Amanda Arnold; 3 half-sisters, Ina Eastcroft, Nan Donaldson and May Kirk all of Scotland; cousin, Janet Charles of South Africa and numerous extended family members. She had many special friends, far too many to name, but every single one held a place in her heart. Michelle was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Madeline Duquette of South Africa; husband, Frank O’Connor; identical twin sister, Louise Draper and brother-in-law, Vern Draper of Davison, MI; half-sister, Mary Ellen Morrison of Scotland and many rescue pets.
Michelle’s family would like to extend a very sincere thank you to the caring nurses and nurse’s-aides at MediLodge of Grand Blanc and to McLaren Hospice for their professional and compassionate care.
