KALANQUIN, Phyllis Cathryn - Of Grand Blanc, age 87, died Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at her residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Monday, September 18, 2023 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton,
Father Steve Anderson officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation 5-8pm Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 7pm Sunday evening at the funeral home. Visitation 10am Monday at church until the time of the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for Masses for Phyllis or her family.
Phyllis was born on May 29, 1936 to Harry L. and Helena E. (Saum) Noland in Monroe, Michigan. She lived in the Monroe and Flint areas all of her life. Phyllis attended St. Michael Catholic Grade School in Monroe, Michigan; St. Mary Academy in Monroe, Michigan graduating in June, 1953 and Nazareth College, Division of Nursing, St. Joseph Unit, Flint, Michigan, graduating in 1956. On June 29, 1957, she married John Kalanquin at St. Michael Catholic Church, Monroe, Michigan and he was the love of her life. She has been a long time member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Burton, Michigan, being active in many groups, including the Council of Catholic Women and the St. Marten Guild. She was a registered nurse employed by St. Joseph Hospital, Flint, Michigan. She loved to travel to Las Vegas and go on many cruises. Phyllis was involved with Monday morning breakfast with her friends for 20 years. She enjoyed her time with her family at the lake. Phyllis’ church was a major part of her life and so were her many friends from church. Above all else, she loved her family. Along with her family, Phyllis will be missed by her many friends and neighbors.
Surviving are her husband, John A. Kalanquin;
children, Patricia and husband Timothy Ferguson and daughter, Emma of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Linda and husband Thomas Louzon of Royal Oak, MI and children, Max, Rachel and husband John Donaldson and their children, Joseph, Noelle and Patrick of Royal Oak, MI, Lyndol Butler (husband of Jan - deceased 1999) and children, Matthew and wife Caroline and their children, James and Olivia, Samuel and wife Katelyn and their son, Calvin and Cathryn and husband Jarrod Hart, of Flushing, Michigan, Judy and husband Glen Wild of Copperas Cove, Texas and sons, Scott, Anthony and wife, Jennifer and their children Hailey and Brooklyn, of San Antonio, Texas, John P. Kalanquin and wife Laura of Saranac, Michigan and his daughter, Mandy, Katherine and husband Kole Guilford and daughter Elizabeth Wilcox, son, Donald Kalanquin of Holly Twp, MI and his children Tyler and Kelly, of Grand Blanc, MI, Nancy Irby and her children, Jesse and Liam, of Swartz Creek, MI, Thomas Kalanquin and wife Colleen and their children, Jacqueline Brown, Gillian Brown and Jameson Brown of Grand Blanc, Michigan. Sister, Nancy Freud.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her daughter, Jan Mary Butler in 1999, son, James Joseph in 1970, parents, brother, Donald Noland, sisters, Barbara Tykosky, Shirley Noland and Janice Hojnacki, brothers/sisters-in law, Raymond Kalanquin, Albert Kalanquin, Frank Tykosky, John Freud, Robert Hojnacki, Gloria Kalanquin and Vern Kalanquin, nephews, Michael Tykosky and Daniel Kalanquin.
