Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Friend to many, Joyce was born on March 13, 1938, in Flint, Michigan. Joyce lived a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. On October 27, 1956, she married the love of her life, Orvel “Red” Alford, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. They were blessed with four children: Lori, Pam, Tammy, and Jeff.

Joyce was a woman of deep Christian faith and was very involved in her church community at West Court Street Church of God. She cared deeply for others, giving generously of her time and resources, and contributed to multiple charities throughout her life.

Her warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. Known for her incredible talent in the kitchen, Joyce opened her own restaurant, Orvel’s Deli, in 1984. Her passion for cooking and baking created a loyal following, with many patrons continuing to support the restaurant even after she sold it a decade later. She was lovingly referred to as “Mom” by many who knew her.

Joyce adored spending time with her family and found joy in the simple things—playing card games, reading, and trying new recipes. She took great pride in her growing family and leaves behind a legacy of love in her children, sons-in-law (Pete Peterson, Tom Donahue and Steve Bearup), grandchildren (Erik, Hallie, Darren, Kaleigh, Tommy and Sam) and great-grandchildren (Tanner, Ollionna, Dylenger, Sloane, Meadow, River and Briar Rose).

Joyce was the heart of her family—steadfast, nurturing, and full of grace. She will be forever loved and deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
