ABDELLA, Cecilia A. - Of Flint, age 95, died Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Brookdale of Grand Blanc.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church, 4133 Calkins Road, Flint,
Chorbishop Anthony Spinosa officiating.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Carriage Town Ministries or Catholic Charities, or any charity that feeds the poor.
Visitation 3-7:30pm Tuesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Scripture Service will be held 7pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Cecilia was born in Flint, Michigan on May 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Norman and Delia (Essafy) Rashid. She attended All Saints Catholic School and graduated from St. Michael's Catholic School in Flint, Class of 1945. On October 23, 1948 she married John J. Abdella and he preceded her in death on January 19, 2011. Cecilia was once an active member of St. Agnes Church in Flint and later at Our Lady of Lebanon in Flint Township. She owned and operated Ceal's Beauty Salon in Flint for many years, first on Pierson Road and then on Clio Road. Later she managed Diplomat Beauty Salon on Flushing Road. Like many of her generation, she was an excellent cook, especially Lebanese food. Cecilia loved company and welcomed all to her table.
Surviving are children, John and wife Laurie, Christine, Norman and wife Rachel;
grandchildren, John Jr. and Lauren Abdella, Daniel Smithingell, DeAnah Green, Andrea Ananich and husband Jim, and Michael Abdella;
great-grandchildren, Alexys Green and Jacob Ananich;
Deacon Marty Rachid;
and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, George (Mary), Edmund (Marge), and Philip, who lost his life in WWII, sisters, Agnes Torok (Frank) and Helen Joseph (Sam), grandchild, Mary Abdella, nieces, Arlene Rashead and Barbara Vukovich, nephews, Michael Rashid, Philip Rashead, and Marty Torok.
