Robert Lee Cunningham, 79, of Grand Blanc died December 20, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Son of William H. and Alice (Eaton) Cunningham was born on April 29, 1944, in a “state home” as he liked to tell it. Bob’s dad was a conservation officer and Bob was born in the ranger house at Harrisville State Park. When Bob was a toddler his dad was re-assigned to Ortonville Recreation Area where he had over 8,000 acres of playground. Bob hunted and fished as soon as he could walk and earned money during his high school years at Ortonville Brandon Schools by trapping. Bob served his country during the Vietnam War, earning several medals including the Bronze Star. He and his wife of 56 years, Carol, settled in Holly where he was a former member of the Holly Fire Department and former employee of Hamilton’s of Holly where he raised three wonderful children; Lisa (Ken Stack), Michael (Carol) and Linda. The light of his life were his two grandchildren, Andrea and Joseph. He also loved being Grandpa Bob to Derek Reinhardt and the Race family. Bob leaves behind his sisters Mary Alice Seelbinder and Myrtle Hamilton and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers; William Jesse, Francis Jesse, Earl Jesse, Roger Jesse, Ken Jesse and William Cunningham III. Military honors for Robert Cunningham will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 11AM. |
