Bob Burtch was born on November 30, 1931 to the late Hiram Jack and Norma (Shubring) Burtch in Marion Township in Brant, Michigan. He was baptized at the Marion Springs Lutheran Church in 1935 and confirmed at The Living Hope Lutheran Church in Farwell, Michigan where he and his wife Agnes were founding members.
Bob leaves behind his dear wife, Agnes of 49 years, two sons: Dr. Joseph R. Burtch, Gary (Marjory) Burtch, two daughters: Brenda (Brian) Jacques, Shelley (Jeff) Hyde, two step daughters: Christie (Mike) Ryan, Sandy Snow and many grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Hiram Jack & Norma Burtch, brother Donald & Wilma Burtch, sister Geraldine and Martin Witt and step-son, Curt Snow.
Bob’s love of his life was his wife, Agnes. They were married on June 25, 1971 and cherished their love for 49 years. Their love was one that everyone dreams of in a marriage. An endearing statement often heard from Bob about his wife Agnes was, “whatever my wife wants.”
Bob adored his grandchildren and loved laughing, teasing, and playing with his great grandchildren. His favorite thing to do was to “pull on your ear” with love.
Bob Burtch served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a proud veteran. Upon leaving the armed services, Bob supported his family by working for General Motors for 30 years. During his retirement, Bob served his church in many capacities. He and Agnes traveled extensively throughout the United States. For many years, they wintered in Zephyr Hills, Florida. Friendship was always important to Bob and Agnes. Bob and Agnes loved their friends and no matter where Bob went, he always made new friends.
Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the woods and spent a lot of time at this deer cabin in West Branch. He was instrumental in forming The Marion Springs Conservation Club where he and his buddies shot their guns and bows. They also held many parties for family and community celebrations at the club.
Together, Bob and Agnes grew their faith at The Living Hope Lutheran Church in Farwell, Michigan. As founding members of the church, they worshiped and grew their church family for 30 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob’s memory to Heartland Hospice of Mount Pleasant, Michigan or to The Living Hope Lutheran Church in Farwell, Michigan. The family would also like to lift up a special thanks to the incredible people of Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care of Bob.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at The Living Hope Lutheran Church, 2855 Cadillac Drive, Farwell, Michigan.
