Gibbs, Jean Lorraine, of Flushing, age 90, died Monday, December 9, 2024, at McLaren-Flint. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Rossell Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will be 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Jean was born in Coleman, Michigan on November 10, 1934, the daughter of Tobias and Bernice (Seymour) Carroll. She married Penn Gibbs on January 23, 1960. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1992. Jean received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Central Michigan University. She taught as a public-school teacher for over 30 years, starting in Flint and retiring from Flushing Community Schools. With her family, she enjoyed traveling, all over the country, Canada and Mexico and overseas, including Ireland. Jean also enjoyed cooking, and puzzles such as sudoku and word searches. Jean loved Irish music and singing along to the radio. She was active in Huntington Disease Research and the Stephen Ministries at the Flushing United Methodist Church.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Barbara; brothers, Fred Carroll, Frank (Alice) Carroll; sister-in-law, Sandy Yokobosky; nieces and nephews, Shannon (David) Carroll-Frey, Patrick (Sheri) Carroll, Heather (Lance) Flint, Todd (Becca) Carroll, Dominick (Becca) Cataldo, Tony (Sally) Carroll, Scott (Cheryl) Yokobosky; dear friends, Keri Jaggers, Wilma Wingsley, and Norma Snowden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Penn; son, Theodore; brother, Larry Carroll; and her parents.
