Lucille was born September 9, 1925, in Gibson County, Tennessee, to the late Dallas Franklin and Nancy Euleen (Mallard) Rose. As a teenager she traveled to Flint, Michigan, where she met and later married Wesley D.K. Lonsway on December 24, 1946. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on February 18, 1991.
Over the past 71 years, Lucille and Wesley owned two successful family businesses in the Clio area. They started the Lonsway Poultry Farm in 1951 and supplied eggs to area stores and restaurants for 30 years. Their second business, Lonsway Self Storage, continues to this day and is operated by their son, Kevin. Lucille was a daily fixture in the front office of each business; she loved visiting and talking with customers and did not retire until the age of 95.
Caring for her family was Lucille’s true passion in life. She had an adventurous nature and took family trips across the United States, Europe, Mexico, and even spent five summers in Alaska salmon fishing with her husband and sons. She followed the Methodist faith and had a very strong work ethic. Summers were spent gardening and canning. In the fall she helped her grandchildren sell pumpkins. She was known as an exceptional cook and her greatest joy was cooking dinners for her family.
Above all else, Lucille was a devoted and loving mother to her surviving children: Walter DK (Sheryl) Lonsway, Cheri (Peter) Albin, Kevin Lonsway (Fiancée Cathy), Janet Lonsway (Eric Schlytter), and David Lonsway.
Lucille was also immensely proud of her eight grandchildren: Debra Sue (Robert), Walter DK Jr. (Renae), Wayne Lucas (Rachel), Jillian (Corey), Jason Peter, Eric Ryan (Cesilie), Corey Allen (Fiancée Lauren), and Tyler DK (Tyanna); her 14 great grandchildren: Angelica Marie, Terry Terrance Ray, Brandon Matthew, Jessica Lauren, Samantha Marie, Wayne Lucas II; Sullivan James, Maxxon, Allie Rose, Denver Ryan, Emilynn Joy, Liam DK, Lily Mae Rose, and Lane Wesley; and her one great-great grandchild, Anthony Kayden.
Lucille has one surviving sister, Patricia Ann, of Florida. She was preceded in death by seven siblings: Lillie Mai, George (Jack) Franklin, Dallas Buford, Charles Vester, Margaret Juanita, Allie (Dora) Eudora, and Cornelia Faye; as well as by her beloved Aunts Elsie, Norma, and Allie.
Funeral services will be held at 10AM Monday, August 22, 2022, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Chaplain Randall Waibel officiating. Burial to follow in Montrose Township Cemetery.
