Zellers, Mary Ellen of Grand Rapids, formerly of Flushing, age 93, died Sunday, July 30, 2023. Funeral services will be at Rossell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, August 4, 2023, from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m., with the funeral service following at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Bendle Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Cambridge and Georgetown Manor in Jenison, MI.
Mary Ellen was born in Flint, MI on September 24, 1929, the daughter of Raymond and Helen (Rumsey) Bailey. After Helen passed away, Raymond married Ella Mae (Traynor) Bailey, who lovingly raised Mary Ellen as her own daughter. Mary Ellen was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. Mary Ellen married Richard Zellers on August 11, 1956,
in Flushing. Mary Ellen taught at Civic Park School in Flint for five years. She was also employed by Rossell Funeral Home for over 25 years. Mary Ellen was an active and faithful member of Flushing Presbyterian Church. She was a volunteer for hospice organizations, the Adopt-a-Highway Program, and North End Soup Kitchen. She was a member of the Flushing Area Historical Society and the Order of Eastern Stars where she was Past Matron.
Mary Ellen’s greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with them. They loved coming to her farmhouse for visits and celebrations. She was always encouraging to her children and grandchildren.
She had a heart to help others and was always willing to help in any way she could. Her humility and servant heart was evident to all who knew her. Her life had a lasting positive impact on so many people. A great sense of humor and quick wit was evident all through her life.
Mary Ellen is survived by her children, Richard Zellers II, and wife Shawn, Laurie and husband Gregory Edgcombe; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Zellers, her sister Maxine (Rodger) Bloomfield, brother Dennis W. (Kay) Traynor.
