BONVENTRE, Joseph M. (Mitch) - Of Lake City, age 72, died Thursday, August 19, 2021 at his residence.
Joseph Bonventre -The Man, The Myth, The Legend. Joe (Mitch) was born in Flint, Michigan on July 22, 1949, the son of the late Joseph Bonventre and Lavena (Fink) Bonventre. He married Joyce (Finstrom) Bonventre on August 15, 1970.
He attended Mott Community College and University of Michigan, Flint campus. He worked at Grand Trunk Western Railroad/CN Railroad for 40 years. If you met him, you were his friend. If you happened to be a pretty girl, you were his BEST friend. Oh - and - every girl is drop-dead-gorgeous! He had many friends from his years at the railroad and talked with them often after retirement. As his 4 daughters grew up, many of their friends became his "other daughters" and they all called him "Dad". But Joe's greatest love was for his daughters and his grandchildren. His best days were days spent with them close by his side. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood-working, playing golf, running and more than anything - his dogs. You would always find at least one dog in his house. He loved his "up-north" house on the Clam River in Lake City and spent every available day there. He was a member of the Riverbend Striders, and ran in many Crim and other races, including a Portland Marathon in which he ran to raise funds for Athletes Helping Athletes. Joe loved music and spent many hours singing with his record player, then tape player, then cd player, then back to record player. He often found a particular spot in a song and played and re-played that section over and over and over - with different words - wrong - words each time. He loved Michigan Football - so much so that, while fishing with a friend, he is reported to have held the friend's head under water because Michigan was behind! He cared for the welfare of others and donated bone marrow and white blood cells to someone that he never knew to help her fight her illness. Joe was preceded in death by his mother, his father, his infant son Stephen, brother-in-laws Robert Lamphere, Harold Finstrom, Charles Finstrom, and Clark Mahan, and sister-in-law Jeanne Lamphere. He is survived by his wife Joyce, brother, Danny and wife, Norma Evitts his daughter, Laurie Bonventre, daughter Kristen and husband Brian Dillard, daughter Mandy Bonventre-Boner and husband Tommy Boner, and daughter Carrie Bonventre, his grandchildren Natalie Orange, Brady Orange, Clara Bonventre, Delaney Compeau, Cami Compeau, and Amelia Bonventre, sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
