Catherine Russell
Age 95 of Owosso, passed away peacefully on Friday September 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with Fr. Michael O’Brien officiating. Catherine will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Monday from 4pm to 8pm, with a rosary at 7pm.
Catherine was born to Stella and Lewis Evanchick on January 23, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan. She was a graduate of Morrice High School.
Catherine enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She loved fishing, ceramics, reading, and especially going to the casino. She will be remembered for her strong will and for the love she shared with her family.
On April 25, 1953, Catherine married the love of her life, George Russell Jr., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Morrice. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared more than 66 loving years of marriage before his passing.
Catherine worked for General Telephone and Marsh Products as a computer operator for several years. She took pride in her work and in the life she and George built together.
Catherine is survived by her two daughters, Sue (Rod) Rust and Michelle (Mark) Hecht. Grandchildren: Kimberly and Daniel Rust, Michael and Gregory Hecht, and 5 great grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband George Russell Jr., grandson Chad Rust, and son in law, Mark Hecht.
Catherine’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her family will forever cherish the years they shared, the memories they made, and the love she gave so freely.
