Mavis Miller was born on September 8, 1937, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph and Yvonne (Root) Boyd. Educated locally, Mavis graduated from Kearsley High School in 1955. Mavis met, fell in love with, and married the love of her life, Bill Miller, on December 1, 1956. Their marriage would be blessed with four children, to whom Mavis cherished deeply. Sadly, Bill preceded Mavis in passing on July 22, 2012. Mavis worked as a substitute teacher, as well as teaching piano in her home. Teaching piano was her passion, as she offered lessons to any and all since she was 14-years-old. She would often host recitals for those she mentored so they could show their skills to their family members and friends. Her love for music extended outside of piano lessons, as she would often play the piano for the Clio Senior Center, as well as the piano and bells for the Bethany United Methodist Church and bell choir, where she was a longtime member. Mavis had an extensive collection of sheet music, some pieces being over 100-years-old.

Living a very active and social lifestyle, Mavis was a member of the female social group, the Red Hats Society. In her free time, she enjoyed being in the yard working in her vegetable and flower gardens, caring for the horses and barn cats, and cooking delicious meals and treats for her family. If she wasn’t home, she could be found up north, as she would often stay at her cabins at Cedar Lake and Silver Lake.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Dennis and wife, Patty Miller, Diane and husband, Zane Peltonen, Daniel and wife, Teresa Miller; her 18 grandchildren; her 23 great-grandchildren; her four great-great-grandchildren; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Mavis was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years: Bill Miller; her son and daughter-in-law: David and Sue Miller; her parents: Ralph and Yvonne Boyd; and her grandson: Jonathon Miller.
