DARNELL, Elmer J. – Of Flint, age 82, died Saturday, May 24, 2025, at his residence.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Visitation 11am Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
Elmer was born in Flint, MI on January 20, 1943, the son of late Elmer E. and Thelma (Johnson) Darnell. On May 27, 1967, he married the love of his life, Phylis (Murphy) Darnell. Elmer enjoyed traveling with his beautiful wife, spending time with his family, working in the yard/woods and was an avid Michigan and Lions’ fan. His quick wit and sense of humor entertained everyone. He was an amazing husband, dad, Pa, brother, son, uncle and friend. He was loved and respected by everyone in his life.
Surviving are his wife, Phylis Darnell;
Daughters, Debbi (John) Gooch and Michelle Darnell Martinez;
Grandchildren, Michael (Heather), Marissa (Jake), Matthew (Ashley), Megan, Tyler, Peyton, Blake, Grant & Olivia;
Several great grandchildren and beloved nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer & Thelma Darnell, sister Ruthann (Frank) Rogers and parents-in-law, William & Neltha Murphy.
