Passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 with his family by his side; age 57 years. Tom was born on March 26, 1959 in Flint, MI to the late James and Sarah Harris. He graduated from Genesee High School and was employed by GM Flint Metal Center for 36 years, retiring in 2013.
Tom loved playing basketball and working outdoors. He enjoyed long walks in the woods and studying Civil War history. He was a kind and gentle man, caring for his mother until her death in 2000. Tom had a great sense of humor with an incredible knack for story telling.
Surviving are a brother and 3 sisters, Donald (Linda) Harris of Flushing, MI, Betty Harris of Davison, MI, Alice (Mark) Karnes of North Muskegon, MI and Soddo Ethiopia and Mary (Larry) Porte of Frankenmuth, MI; special friend DiAnn Bailey of Genesee, MI, her son Jay Tucker and her mother Margie Bailey; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Flint, 746 Saginaw Street, Flint, MI; Rev. Paul Ytterock will officiate. Tom’s family will receive visitors at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. According to Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Pet Angel Adoption, Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation, or Soddo Christian Hospital (www.soddo.org).
