JONES, DAN, age 69, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital, Grand Blanc, Michigan surrounded by his family after a brief (three week) but aggressive battle with stage 4 metastatic cancer. As per Dan's wishes, there will be no service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Dan was born in Flint on December 15, 1956 to Dan and Emma Jean Jones. He graduated from Kearsley High School in 1974. In 1986, Dan married Bonnie Nordstrom. He hired into Grand Blanc Metal Fab (“Tank Plant”) in 1977 and was a member of UAW Local 1292. He retired in 1993 after the death of his son, Jimmy.
Dan enjoyed a love of everything mechanical from an early age. He was especially fond of MOPAR and muscle cars, building many. He was an excellent mechanic and body man inspiring not only his son, Shawn, but many others. A true master of all trades. He and wife Bonnie were Genesee County Master Gardeners, class of 1998. He loved gardening of “all sorts”. He loved camping, especially in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He always had Banana101 playing in his workshop but also liked his mellow R&B and classic rock... Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, etc. He discovered a love of woodworking when he completely renovated his home. He took great pride in his attention to detail and turned out many beautiful pieces of furniture and other wooden items becoming a true master craftsman in the process. He enjoyed playing cards and board games with Bonnie and family, watching Detroit Tiger baseball, and more than anything, he loved his home and the responsibility to care for it and his people within. He particularly enjoyed the simple pleasures of a pretty sunset, a campfire, a tidy yard, a hot bath or a good conversation. He inspired many with his creativity and kindness. His motto was “A hug, a kiss and a kind word” each day. Be it Bonnie, his children or his pets, he set the standard. With his charming, deadpan sense of humor and warmth toward everyone he met, he was the epitome of a gentle soul and decent human being.
He will be remembered with love by his wife Bonnie; son Shawn (Sara) of Chattanooga, TN; step-daughter, Erin (Annie) Fisk of Grand Rapids, MI; brother, Mike Jones (Jan) of Burton; brother, Lynn Jones (Sue) of Maryville, TN; 2 grandchildren Henry Williams and Ruby Williams; Sister-in-law, Linda (Larry) Smith of Linden, MI; brother-in-law Gary (Donna) Nordstrom of Nashville, TN; Bonnie's step-mother, Marion Nordstrom of Tawas City, MI; his fur baby, Bizzy; many loving nieces and nephews; and last but not least, the best neighbors in the world who he considered family.
Dan was preceded in death by his mother and father Dan Lenwood and Emma Jean Jones; son Jimmy Jones; grandson Peyton Barringer; and all of his beloved four-legged companions who greeted him into Paradise with open paws.
