William Henry Brewer, Jr. of Flushing, Michigan, age 82, passed away April 12, 2022. He was able to die at home, where he so longed to be.
Visitation will be at Rossell Funeral Home on Monday, April 18, from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, April 19, at ll:00 a.m., with one hour of visitation at 10:00 a.m., at St. Robert Catholic Church, Flushing, Michigan. Fr. Prabhu Lakra will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Bill was born in Highland Park, Michigan on June 20, 1939, the son of William and Charline (Prudhomme) Brewer, Sr. He and JoAnne Brownell were united in holy matrimony on November 5, 1966. They were blessed with three children. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a Military Policeman. He attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science and spent several years as a Funeral Director and Mortician in the Flint area before going to work for General Motors. He also owned and operated Pointe Maytag Home Appliance Center in Flushing, Michigan.
Bill was an avid sports fan, watching sports on television, especially when he became dependent on a wheelchair. He loved to be around his family and friends sharing stories and jokes. He learned how to build as a boy from his talented father, while being his gopher and retriever. He went on to build a beautiful sunroom to his home, and many other building projects. He loved his time on Lake Huron, where many family members and friends gathered. Bill had a bit of a green thumb, and grew a large garden for several years, and one of his best successes was sweet corn. He was pretty good at Sudoku puzzles and enjoyed a challenge.
Bill was sick for many years, fighting Multiple Sclerosis since age 36. He was always optimistic, in spite of the many medical issues he faced. He lived his life to the fullest, always having a sense of humor.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, JoAnne, children, Elizabeth Ivey, Natalie and husband Kevin Davis, William Brewer, III, grandchildren, Joshua and Daniel Ivey, Courtney Davis, Bridgett and Nicole Brewer, and sister, Charlene and husband Alan Koth, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Lastly, Bill is survived by his dog, Pepper. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Gabriel Davis.
