HARRISON, Jay Allen – of Custer, MI, age 57, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024. A graveside service will be held on February 29, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, Pastor Gene Byers, officiating. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in August. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sanilac County Humane Society in Jay’s memory.
Jay was born in Flint, Mi on August 16, 1966, the son of Thomas and Virginia (Markiewicz) Harrison. He attended Davison schools and graduated from Central Michigan University, earning two degrees. He was a talented and creative carpenter and landscape artist. He owned two companies, residential construction and remodeling and landscape design. He “remodeled” his parent’s retirement home from the studs to a showplace on the lake. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing, but mostly, he just loved his work. As the saying goes, if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life, and that truly applied to Jay and his work. He was loyal, conscientious, and caring in his relationships. Due to covid restrictions and distancing, Jay was the sole caregiver to his father during his rapid decline with Alzheimer’s.
Jay is survived by his sister and her husband, Kim and Wayne Zander (and Theia, whom Jay loved); friends, Henry and Sue Espinoza, Chris and Cindy Waun, and Bob and Pam Cronk; a very large extended family of aunts, uncles and over 40 cousins and their families, who cherish their memories of Jay; and many friends, especially those of “Lost Lake” in Eden Township. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Virginia Harrison; Buddy, Chip, Smokey and Tom-Tom. A special thank you to his home health nurse, Karla Flanery of Corewell Health.
