MOODY, Van JS - Of Flushing, age 96, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023 in Venice, Florida.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, April 28th, 2023 at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 310 North Cherry Street, Flushing, with Father Jonathan Perrotta officiating.
Burial will follow in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of the United States Army.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday, April 27th at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00pm. Visitation also 10:00am on Friday at the church until the time of Mass.
Van was born in Manchester, Georgia on November 26, 1926, the son of the late John and Ellen Moody. He lived in the Flint and Flushing area most of his life. He served in the Army during World War II in the North Pacific. Van married Lydia Stornello on September 16, 1950. He retired in 1988 from General Motors B.O.C. #36 after 39 years. He was a faithful member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church and the Emmanuel Prayer Group.
He loved good music, wartime movies, playing billiards and computer checkers and going to automobile and airplane shows. He was also an avid mall walker. But mostly, his greatest joys were those happy and special times spent with his family and watching his grandchildren's growing years.
Surviving are son, Joseph and wife Tina;
6 grandchildren, Nicole, Michael, John, Tricia, Nikki and Jessica;
6 great-grandchildren;
sister-in-law, Barbara Stornello;
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia; son, John Emmanuel Moody, three brothers, John, Leslie and James; sisters, Margaret Coron and Mildred Notkke; and brothers-in-law, Dominic (Wanita) Stornello, Louis Stornello and Joe (Charlotte) Stornello.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Robert Bellarmine Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
