Cecil Roy Peterson, of Flushing, age 90, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Honoring Cecil's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1209 Coutant Street, Flushing, with Pastor Ty Zucker officiating.
Cecil was born on October 10, 1934 in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Edward and Edna (Brookhouse) Peterson. He graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1952 and went on to attend General Motors Institute (GMI) for undergrad and received his Masters from the University of Michigan. He later taught engineering as a beloved professor for over 40 years at GMI.
A man of deep faith, Cecil was a devoted member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He viewed his community as an extended family and lived a life rooted in service, humility, and encouragement. He inspired many through his selfless dedication, leaving a legacy of learning, kindness, and gratitude.
Cecil was an active member of the Lions Club and was named Lion of the Year in 2022. He also volunteered faithfully at the Flushing Christian Outreach Center, delivering food and companionship to those in need. A skilled tinkerer, he shared his love of woodworking through classes at the Flushing Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sheila Peterson; children, Eric Peterson and Kerry Clark; stepchildren, Mike Withey, Janice Jurk, and Kathy Hough; as well as many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clifford Peterson, and his sister Lois Engle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
