NELSON, Lorence Roy, 78, formerly of Beaverton, MI, passed away peacefully after a battle with cancer on November 23, 2021, in La Grange, IL.
Lorence was born in Flint, MI, on August 8, 1943, the son of Gorden and Alice Nelson. He grew up in Fenton, MI, and graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint in 1965. Lorence served in the United States Air Force for four years and worked for General Motors for more than 30 years. Lorence married Sharon Williams in 1972. They raised their family in Argentine, MI, and retired to Wixom Lake in Beaverton, MI. Lorence enjoyed fishing and playing cards with family and friends, was active in community organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America and the VFW, and served as the Billings Township treasurer for several years. In 2021, Lorence moved to Illinois to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Lorence passed away on the fifth anniversary of the death of his wife, Sharon.
Lorence is survived by his children and their spouses: Laura (Todd), Melanie (Chris) and Eric (Margaret); his five grandchildren: Alice, Andy, Ryder, Matilda, and Maeve; and his sisters, Phyllis and Louise.
The visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 29, and the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 30, at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Pastor Steve Wood officiating. Burial in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Old Newsboys of Flint, MI (https://www.onbflint.org).
