SANDERS, Kathryn Marie, age 80, of Swartz Creek, passed away on December 31, 2023. A funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Katy was born on March 15,1943 in Flint the daughter of the late Lloyd and Lois Clippard. She graduated from Dye High School, class of 1961. Katy continued her education at Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelors Degree and Eastern Michigan University where she earned her masters degree. She was a gifted teacher in the Flint Community Schools. She retired in 2005 after more than 30 years of teaching students everything from Journalism to Driver’s Ed at Flint Southwestern. Katy was a voracious reader and you never found her without at least one book. An accomplished Knitress she delighted creating endless, beautiful socks, sweaters, shawls, hats and mittens for every baby— human or canine. In her free time, Katy enjoyed traveling with friends, snuggling her dogs, playing competitive bridge and, of course, visiting with her friends at Martini Club. She was a kind and generous friend who never hesitated to help anyone in need. Katy maintained an open mind in a very messy world while remaining an adventurous, positive, and loving spirit. At parties you would usually find her sitting on the floor teaching kids games and hanging out with any pets in attendance.
Katy is survived by her children, Kathleen Sanders and Dave Sanders; sister-in-law, Judith Clippard; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, Katy was preceded in death by her siblings, John Clippard, Thomas Clippard and Alma “Sis” Emerson. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
