Martha Zang, a resident of Flushing and native of Sterling, Michigan, died on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Hyde Park Assisted Living in Flushing. She was 92 years old.?Martha was born on August 9, 1928 in Sterling, Michigan, the youngest of Alexander and Mary (Zilka) Fill’s sixteen children. She was a graduate of Sterling High School where she was a member of the school’s formidable girl’s basketball team. She married Charles Zang on November 13, 1948 in Standish, Michigan where they lived until 1965. They then moved to Flushing. Martha attended and enjoyed fellowship at the New Lothrop Nazarene Church for many years.
Martha worked as a grocery clerk for many years, enjoyed her time as an Avon representative, and taught painting classes at the Flint Institute of Arts. She was a gifted artist who painted hundreds of works, and loved to teach and encourage others in their artistic endeavors. She was an amazing cook, loved to cook for family, and cherished opportunities to be with family at ‘The Farm’, her family’s homestead in Sterling.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 2016, her parents, Alexander and Mary (Zilka) Fill, and her fifteen older siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Elaine and husband Ray Rossell of Flushing, Pamela Thiel of New Lothrop and children, Sarah and husband Dave Wierenga of Australia, Kathryn and husband Dr. Nathaniel Krupp of North Carolina and their son due to be born in June, Bradd and wife Amie Thiel and children, Ava and Andrew of Owosso, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who join her family in both mourning her passing and giving thanks for her life among them.
Martha’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Tiffany from Heart to Heart Hospice and all the staff at Hyde Park Assisted Living for the wonderful care she received.
A Funeral Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, 9405 Butternut St., New Lothrop, on Wednesday, February 24, at 2PM with Ray Rossell officiating. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11AM until the time of service. *For those unable to attend and due to Covid 19 restrictions, Wednesday’s ceremony may be viewed from this obituary page. She will be buried privately in Sterling Cemetery on Thursday.
Memorials may be made in her name to Heart to Heart Hospice or New Lothrop Nazarene Church.
