Dorothy “Dot” Marie Koan, of Flushing, Michigan, age 93, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, March 22, 2022. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Rossell Funeral Home. Deacon Denny Pennell will officiate. Burial to follow at Bendle Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home until the time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Genesee County Humane Society, St. Robert Catholic Church, or to a veterans organization of your choice.
Dorothy was born in Maple Grove, Michigan on May 26, 1928 to Julius and Loretta (Eickholt) Andres. As a child she loved riding her horse, Golden Boy. Later as a teen she proudly rode a Whizzer motor bike which transported her to and from work at the grain mill in Montrose. Dorothy graduated from St. Michael High School and a few years later married Robert "Jay” Koan on October 22, 1949. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2013. She enjoyed word search books, gardening, watching birds and watching old Western movies with her son Ray. She loved her cat Sassy who brought her a lot of joy. Dorothy was a great cook and made the best Sunday roast beef dinners for her family. She loved to attend St. Roberts church and when she couldn’t attend in her later years she would watch Sunday mass on tv and have communion brought to her by her best friend, Joyce. Her favorite time spent though, was with her family, during their get togethers. The family would like to give special recognition to her son, Art, who has always been there for her.
She is survived by her children, Gloria (Dan) Hetfield, Ray Koan, Arthur (Ronna) Koan, Sharon (David Rieson) Dryden, Karen (Keith) Clark, and Judy (Randy) Holdorf; grandchildren, Jason (Kait) Hetfield, Mandy (Kristy) Hetfield, Megan (Matt) Friend, Dustin (Tammy) Koan, Traci Koan, Matt (Jennifer) Koan, Hannah Spencer, Lacy Spencer, Ashley Spencer, Michael Dryden, David (Katie) Dryden, Amber Dryden, Sarah (Sean) Lewis, Wyatt Rierson, Troy (Elise) Henige, Jessica (Collin) Householder, and Andy (Felicia) Holdorf; great-grandchildren, Aberdeene Hetfield, Phoenix Hetfield, Cece Hetfield, Auggie Hetfield, Taylor Friend, Kinsley Friend, Rory Henige, Seraphim Householder, Kaylea (Jacob) George, Josh (Destanie Rambo) Goad, Madison Koan, Kenyon Shane, Gabby Wood, Kaden Wood, Jordan Holdorf, Alayna Holdorf, Emma Holdorf, Daelyn Dryden and two more great-grandbabies arriving in August; great-great-grandchildren, Ethan George, Elliott George, Tarralyn Holton and Emalyn Goad; and siblings, Marian Kurncz, Agnes May, and Bernie (Diana) Andres. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay; sister, Millie Andres; granddaughter, Vonda Rierson; and brothers-in-law, Pete Kurncz and Bill May. |
