Arlene Joyce Gregory, age 92, passed away on December 17, 2020, at Wellbridge of Grand Blanc. A private celebration of her life will be held on December 22, 2020, Pastor Steve Wood officiating. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to pay tribute are invited to make memorial donations to the Wade Pyles & Duane Elling Community Fund, care of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, 500 S. Saginaw St., Suite 200, Flint, MI 48502.
Visitation 5-8 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2020 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Due to Covid-19 and government regulations, only 25 people will be allowed in the chapel at one time. Mask, group capacity and distancing guidelines must be practiced.
Arlene was born July 10, 1928, in Flint, Michigan, to Charles and Emma Francis. After graduating in 1946 from Flint’s Central High School, she worked as a dental assistant and office clerk before marrying William “Bill” Gregory on March 27, 1958.
Beneath Arlene’s quiet demeanor was a playful spirit, reflected in her quick smile and love of a good joke. A keen mind was evidenced by her ability to play upwards of 20 bingo cards at the same time, and to keep accurate track of her – and other players’ – scores in games of cards and dice. Arlene also enjoyed fishing, quilting, knitting, puzzles and gardening.
Arlene is survived by her devoted daughter, Jacqueline Pyles; daughter, Patricia Roberts; grandson, Andrew (Kelly) Pyles; granddaughter, Ava Pyles; and “adopted” grandson, Duane Elling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; brother, Richard Francis; son-in-law, William Pyles; and grandson, Wade Pyles.
